Cross Section Page

The Superstructure Cross section parameters page is used to define the cross sectional dimensions along the bridge. The cross section is a concrete deck and Built-up plate girder I-section.

Deck parameters
SettingDescription
Same as option copies deck parameters values from one span to another.
Deck width (w) Width of the cast-in-place deck measured from edge to edge
Deck depth (d) Thickness of the cast-in-place deck.
Haunch top width (htw) Width at deck bottom surface of the concrete layer between a superstructure member and a concrete deck.
Haunch bottom width (hbw) Width at girder top flange surface of the concrete layer between a superstructure member and a concrete deck.
Haunch depth (hd) Thickness of the concrete layer between a superstructure member and a concrete deck (just for information, it is auto computed as a difference between vertical offset/alignment reference and deck depth; hd=V.offset-(d+h/2)).
Typical girder parameters

Same as option copies typical girder parameters values from one span to another.
Number of girders Number of steel girders used for the composite bridge.
Girder type Sectional shape of the steel girders used.
Girder ID Select the primary member id to be used (only I-shape is allowed). By right clicking on the arrow, add/edit options will be available and send you to profiles definition menu where you can add new profiles or modify existing ones.
Alignment reference Typical points in cross-sections to be used for measuring distances between different parts or members; we have 5 options for selection and showed in a picture next to it:
  • TopFlange
  • TopWeb
  • CenterWeb
  • BottomWeb
  • BottomFlange.    
Vertical offset Vertical distance between the reference point of the slab and the reference point on the girder, point that was selected in alignment reference field.
Girders arrangement Types of girder arrangement: Regular, Parallel and Arbitrary. As per default it is Regular and will let you define the cross sectional dimensions along the bridge using typical girder parameters with constant spacing between girders and the same girder Id for all the girders in the current span. Changing the girder arrangement type must be done from Girder alignment dialog.    
Spacing Distance between two consecutive girders.
